Describe Him: Unifier
Unify: "to make things into one: to bring people or things together to form a single unit or entity". (1)
Is that not exactly what Christ has done to every single individual who has placed their trust in Him?
Think about it: if it weren't for the bond of Christ that we have a believers, would we naturally hang out with that person sitting across the aisle from us in church?
Probably not.
Chances are that a lot of us would not naturally interact with many of the people we call brothers and sisters in Christ because outside of Christ, we wouldn't have much in common. We have different interests, lifestyles, backgrounds, careers, and so on.
However, because we are in Christ, we have the most important thing about us in common!
It doesn't matter if I am a stay-at-home mom and you are the CEO of the company you built from the ground up: if we are both sinners washed in His blood, standing righteous before Him, that is the most important fact about us.
That is at the top of our Who I Am statements and it surpasses every other statement about us.
Christ has brought us together. As believers, we now all find our identity in one Person, Christ.
We are brought together because we have been declared righteous...by the blood of Christ.
We are brought together because we have been made joint-heirs...with Christ.
We are brought together because we have been made a part of the Body...of Christ.
Christ is the one that brings together all people from across all nations, tribes, and tongues.
He is the one who brings together people with all types of professions, financial status, football team obsessions, likes and dislikes. He then makes us a part of His family, the Body, and we sit next to each other on Sunday mornings to worship Him together and then help carry each other's burdens during the week.
He is the One who has made us all a part of One Body, having designed it in such a way that we need each other, despite all of our differences, idiosyncrasies, quirks, and weaknesses.
In Galatians 3:27-28, we read that,
"For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ
have put on Christ.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free,
there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus."
And then, in Ephesians 4:4-6, we are reminded that,
"There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all,
who is above all, and through all, and in you all."
Yes, He is the Unifier of all who trust in His name for the forgiveness of sins.
