On Six Years of Marriage

Image
Six years ago, we stood before our family and friends and pledged our love to each other. We became Mr and Mrs Isaac Stanley and had that first awkward kiss before a watching audience. It has been 2,190 days since I became  Mrs Stanley,  and I'm still not used to that name.   Wedding Day - June 2013 That sunny June day, almost four years after we first met, we thought we knew each other. But oh, how little we really knew! I mean, I knew he loved to read, but just how much, I really had no clue!   We thought we loved each other, but that love had been untested, untried. Sure, we had to work through some things before we were married, but that day when we pledged our love to each other, our love was really only in its infant stages. It was definitely still in the fuzzy-feeling stage. Zucchinni Skillet...reminds me of home :)  Believe it or not, these coconut cookies are actually Gluten, Grain, Dairy, and {kinda} refined sugar free.  They're pretty addicting!  Everyone tells me that I'll be flooded with baby blankets...buuuut...I couldn't resist trying out making a baby blanket.  Afterall, if I ever have an excuse to try quilting something, now is the time, right?   Annnd...it's been 4 years now with this handsome guy.  Happy Father's Day!
Ok, I've only been married just over 2 years now, so I definitely am not the one to be dishing out advice on marriage. Aaaaand I definitely do not have this marriage thing all figured out either.  But...I really do appreciate the point Melissa drives home in her article on  the inner workings of becoming one flesh. Hope you are encouraged as well!

June 1st was our anniversary.  Has it already been two whole years since we got married!?!?  We kept it simple, but we did spend the day doing something out-of-the-normal to celebrate!  We’ve talked a lot about having a picnic in Wind Cave National Park  just a few miles north of us, but we’ve never gotten around to it.  Until now.  An anniversary was a perfect excuse to take a breakfast picnic and hike around for a few hours! Love this guy.

Ten Days

Ten days until I say "I do". Ten days until my life forever changes, in ways that I can only begin to grasp. Ten days I still have to change my mind (but I'm not!) Ten days until I marry my best friend. Wow. Sometimes I catch myself thinking "What in the world am I doing?!?!? Am I really ready for this?"  I see godly couples around me who have great marriages and subconsciously hope that my marriage will also be a godly marriage.  Yes, if there is one thing that I desire from the very depths of my heart is that Christ would be glorified through our marriage. Oh yes, I know I am guilty of having fuzzy feelings and not totally realizing all of the not-so-wonderful aspects of being married--the small, everyday things that have the potential of becoming the elephant in the room, or the hard work that it will take just to keep a house running smoothly. I don't know how this is all going to work, because I am a sinner.  Sometimes I scare even myself with my sinful...
